When Michelle Obama became the First Lady of our country, it was as if an alien had suddenly landed in America to some folks!
People of all colors seemed to have a very difficult time accepting that classy black women exist in this country.
We’re bombarded daily with negative images and characters of black women on television and in print.
But when do we, the classy black ladies of the world, ever get our shine?
Not to mention, that after First Lady Obama took her place as the smart, classy, stylish, professional, and well-loved black woman she is, it’s as if the world pushed back with even MORE negative media surrounding black women. Let’s do a quick run-down of the reasons why a positive website highlighting classy black women is needed:
1. They’re doing repetitious news reports on how black women “don’t get married” on national television, as if the so-called plight of black females is a matter that other races need to dissect. Newsflash:: non-black women aren’t getting married in packs anymore either—it’s not a race issue and black women are doing just fine in spite of it.
2. Articles and movies depicting black women in a negative light. From "Good Hair" to the recent article in the Wall Street Journal discussing why black women go to Dominican hair stylists now, pulling money away from black stylists. Why does everyone in the mainstream media seem to be interested in the specific habits of everyday black women and positioning it as some type of "problem?" Don’t all races of women spend loads of money on their hair, extensions and all? 3. Some website reported that the average black women in the US has a $5 net worth. Now I’d like to know how anyone could come to that conclusion. Where is there a national database reporting each person’s net worth? The contents of a bank account is private information last I checked. 4. The CDC tried to apply a statistic about a particular STD to black women unfairly, saying that it affects nearly half of black women. The media had a field day with that one, but then it turned out to be seriously flawed. How can a supposed reputable gov’t agency allow a biased and inaccurate statistic to be published in the major media without clarifications? Enough with the negativity! I write all of this to simply say, this is why this website exists—to combat the obvious negative media slant against black women and to give classy black ladies everywhere a place to come, relax, and enjoy positive conversations and articles on black women. So, if you’re a classy black woman or someone who loves and appreciates the beauty of hard-working, loving, smart black women, please bookmark the website (CTRL + D), read some blog posts on everything from relationships to beauty tips, and participate in the forum.
